As I transition from my role as president of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) to becoming the immediate past president and chair of the CMSA Editorial Board, I am filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude for the incredible journey we have shared. The past two years have been dedicated to growth, innovation and no longer being “the best kept secret in healthcare.” Together, we have navigated challenges, embraced opportunities and strengthened the foundation of our organization, ensuring that CMSA remains a leading voice in the case management profession.

Reflecting on my time as president, I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished. We have expanded our reach, enhanced our educational offerings, and fostered a community that supports and uplifts one another. It has been an honor to work alongside such dedicated professionals, all of whom share a passion for advancing the field of case management and improving patient outcomes.

Now, as I assume my new role as chair of the CMSA Editorial Board, I am excited to continue contributing to our mission in a different capacity. This transition marks the beginning of a new chapter, one where I have the privilege of guiding the editorial direction of CMSA Today, ensuring that it remains a premier resource for our members and the broader healthcare community.

The role of the Editorial Board is pivotal in shaping the narrative of our profession. It serves as a platform to showcase innovative practices, share cutting-edge research and highlight the voices of thought leaders in case management. As chair, I am committed to upholding the high standards of excellence that have defined CMSA Today and to introducing new and exciting content that reflects the evolving landscape of healthcare.

In this upcoming edition, we are excited to explore dual themes that are crucial to our profession: Quality Management and Post-Acute Care. As we strive for excellence in patient outcomes and efficient healthcare delivery, these themes will guide our discussions and content offerings.

Quality management is a cornerstone of effective case management, and we are privileged to feature articles from renowned quality management leaders who will share insights into strategies for enhancing care delivery. I was honored to co-present with Dr. Vivian Greenway at the 2024 CMSA National on the “Intersection of Quality Management and Case Management.” We widen that exploration with articles that will cover topics such as:

  • Best practices for driving quality improvements across healthcare settings.
  • Leveraging analytics to identify areas for improvement and optimize patient care.
  • Approaches to reducing errors and enhancing safety protocols in complex healthcare environments.

By spotlighting these areas, we aim to provide valuable knowledge and tools that case managers can apply to their daily practice, ultimately fostering a culture of quality that benefits patients and providers alike.

In addition, our focus on post-acute care will include insightful articles discussing the latest updates and trends in skilled nursing facilities (SNF) and home health care (HHC). As these areas continue to evolve, it is essential for case managers to stay informed about the changes that impact their practice and patient care.

  • Exploring regulatory changes, care models, and strategies for improving patient transitions and outcomes in SNFs.
  • Insights into innovative practices, reimbursement updates, and the role of technology in enhancing home health services.

By delving into these critical aspects of post-acute care, we aim to equip our readers with the knowledge and understanding needed to navigate the complexities of these settings and advocate for optimal patient care.

I am eager to work with our talented Editorial Board members, contributors and readers to create content that inspires, educates and challenges us to think differently about the future of case management. Together, we will explore new ideas, celebrate successes and continue to advocate for the vital role that case managers play in the healthcare continuum.

As I step into this new role, I am reminded of the importance of our collective voice and the power of storytelling in shaping the future of our profession. I invite each of you to join us on this journey, to share your experiences, insights and expertise, and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue that drives our field forward.

Thank you for your continued support, dedication and passion for case management. I look forward to serving as your chair of the CMSA Editorial Board and to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

Warm regards,
Dr. Colleen Morley-Grabowski
