Saying Thank You and Welcome

I would like to dedicate this Past Presidents Column to Jose Alejandro, PhD, RN-BC, NEA-BC, CCM, ACM-RN, MBA, FACHE, FAAN, and Melanie Prince, MSN, RN, NE-BC, CCM. Jose is the outgoing president and Melanie is the incoming president of CMSA!

Traditionally, the past presidents who attend the annual conference pay tribute to the outgoing president and welcome the incoming president at a dinner during the conference. Due to the in-person conference being converted to virtual, this was not possible, so I would like to recognize them both in this column.

Being president of a national organization is not easy, especially when you have a full-time job and various other duties to attend to. Over the past two years, Jose has led CMSA with professionalism and integrity.

Melanie is the incoming president of CMSA. She has recently retired after a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force. She will begin her term at the June conference. I am sorry the coronavirus has caused the in person annual conference to be cancelled as it is always a special moment when we learn about the goals of the incoming president when she is sworn into office. At CMSA’s virtual event, we will be hearing from both of these leaders, but we wanted to recognize them here.

On behalf of all of the past presidents of CMSA, we thank Jose for the work he has done over the past two years as president and welcome Melanie as the incoming president of CMSA.

Anne Llewellyn, MS, BHSA, RN-BC, CCM, CRRN, was CMSA president from 2003-4. In 2015 she was the recipient of the CMSA Lifetime Achievement Award. Anne remains active in her local chapter, the South Florida Case Management Network and is a member of the CMSA Today editorial board.
