The social stigma associated with any mental health concern, including postpartum depression, prevents many mothers from openly communicating with friends, family or their medical provider about their symptoms, preventing them from getting the help they need. Pediatric nursing is wonderfully unique. We get the opportunity — no — we are encouraged to step outside the box every day with every patient. Florence Nightingale has been quoted as saying that “nursing is a fine art,” and I add that pediatric nursing is the finest of those arts.
